Transparent LED on Glass:
Digital Window Display with See-Through Clarity
Transparent LED (transparent LED display, LED film on glass) transforms a shop window or glass facade into a dynamic digital medium — without the window losing its openness. Customers see your content from a distance while the view-through is preserved. We design the right technology for your location, handle the installation and provide a CMS for centralised content management.
How Transparent LED Works
A transparent LED display consists of a thin grid of LED diodes with large gaps between pixels. This allows light to pass through — transparency typically ranges from 50–85% depending on the type. This is the key difference from a conventional LCD screen, which has a solid opaque backlight panel and does not allow any transparency.
50–85% Transparency
The gaps between LED pixels allow light to pass through. Customers see both your content and what is behind the display. The window keeps its openness.
Visible Day & Night
We design brightness and contrast based on the window's orientation and ambient light at your location. Content must be legible in direct sunlight and in darkness — this requires different settings.
CMS — Centralised Content Management
Content is planned and updated remotely: campaigns, playlists, scheduling and local variants for each branch. No printing, no physical installation changes required.
Who Is Transparent LED Ideal For
Wherever you want to transform a window or glass facade into a digital medium — while preserving the view-through or natural light into the space.
Retail & Chain Stores
Seasonal campaigns, product spots, sales — without printing posters or physical replacements. One campaign across all branches or local variants.
Banks & Insurance
Product information, brand video, offers. A premium look consistent with the brand image. 24/7 operation without manual intervention.
Showrooms & Car Dealerships
Technical information, product video, a premium wow-effect. Transparent LED adds a communication layer without obscuring the display.
Hotels & Restaurants
Programme, menu, ambient video, news. An unobtrusive yet visible communication element for both interior and exterior use.
Three Transparent LED Options — Which Suits You?
The choice depends on the surface area, required transparency, installation method and exposure (indoor / outdoor). We'll help you choose based on your specific conditions.
LED Film (applied to glass)
The cleanest visual. A thin transparent layer with LED diodes adheres directly to the glass. Minimal visual disruption from outside. Transparency 70–85%.
Ideal for: shop windows, interior glass partitions, showrooms
LED Grid (rigid mesh structure)
Robust for larger surfaces. A rigid grid structure of LED strips with gaps. Suitable for outdoor use and large glass facades. Transparency 50–70%.
Ideal for: facades, large windows, outdoor installations
LED Curtain (hanging system)
Flexible modules. A hanging system for large glass facades or interior visual effects. Modularly expandable with easy service access.
Ideal for: atriums, large facades, events, interior effects
LED or LCD? The Key Difference Customers Confuse
The most common customer question: "Is it like that big LCD screen?" No — LED and LCD are completely different technologies.
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) requires a full-area backlight panel — which is why it is always a compact, opaque panel. Transparency is not possible with LCD.
LED (Light-Emitting Diode) display emits light directly from the diodes. Pixels can be spaced out in a grid with gaps → creating a transparent display. Additionally:
- LED works reliably outdoors (frost, heat, rain, IP65)
- Longer lifespan: 50,000–100,000 hours
- Higher brightness (readable in direct sunlight)
- Large formats without bezels or seams
If you need a transparent display for a shop window, LED is the only option.
| Property | LED | LCD |
|---|---|---|
| Transparency | ✓ Yes | ✗ No |
| Outdoor (IP65) | ✓ Yes | ✗ Limited |
| Large formats without bezels | ✓ Yes | ✗ No |
| Lifespan | 50,000–100,000 h | 30,000–50,000 h |
| Brightness (nit) | 5,000–10,000+ | 500–1,500 |
How Much Does Transparent LED Cost?
Turnkey installation price
What affects the price:
- Surface area (m²) and number of panels
- Technology type: LED film / grid / curtain
- Pixel pitch — content visibility vs. transparency
- Installation method (direct application vs. frame structure)
- CMS: local operation vs. cloud management for multiple branches
- Service plan and remote monitoring
Prices always start with a consultation — we need to know the dimensions, location and your objectives. Consultation is free.
Frequently Asked Questions about Transparent LED
Is transparent LED visible in daylight?
Yes. We design brightness and contrast based on the window's orientation and ambient light intensity at your specific location. A correctly designed installation is clearly readable even in direct sunlight — we use sufficiently powerful panels and optimise the content (contrast, graphic size).
What percentage of transparency is retained?
It depends on the type and pixel pitch. LED film typically retains 70–85% transparency, LED grid ranges around 50–70%. The exact figure always depends on the specific product — transparency and content visibility are in mutual compromise.
Does it require drilling into the glass?
It depends on the solution type. LED film adheres directly to the glass without drilling — installation is non-invasive to the window. LED grid or curtain systems mount on a frame or hanging structure, which may require fixings to the window frame or facade. We always design the least invasive installation method.
Can multiple displays be managed from one location?
Yes. The CMS allows centralised management of any number of displays. Set campaigns, playlists and scheduling once and publish them across all locations simultaneously — or send different content to each branch. Works from a web browser or mobile app.
What is the difference between LED film and LED grid?
LED film is a thin transparent layer adhered directly to the glass — minimal visual disruption, ideal for premium window design. LED grid is a rigid mesh structure with LED strips — more robust, suitable for larger areas or outdoor applications that need to withstand weather. We supply both types and will help you choose based on your requirements.
Is transparent LED suitable for a small shop?
Yes. We scale solutions from a smaller window (e.g. 1–2 m²) to networks of dozens of branches. Pricing varies by area, technology type and deployment method. For small businesses we also offer an 'as-a-service' model (DSaaS) — hardware and CMS for a monthly subscription without a large upfront investment.
How long does installation take?
For a smaller window (up to 3 m²) typically one working day. Larger projects or special structures take longer. The exact scope and timeline will be confirmed during the technical consultation and site survey.
